sharing food & giving hope

Each month,
we serve over 700 people in Winooski.

how to make a difference
Volunteering at the Winooski Food Shelf is a richly rewarding experience. Our volunteers range from high school to college students, executives to retirees, school teachers to electricians, and everyone in between. Because we have a set schedule, it is easy to designate a specific time and day of the week to volunteer. Please see "Who We Are" for information on our activities. Just call 802-655-7371, leave a message, and someone will return your call. We can also be reached by email at winooskifoodshelf@gmail.com.
Affiliation with the United Methodist Church of Winooski is not required.

Urgent Need Volunteers are needed to help the 3rd Wednesdays of the Month at 9 am to help unload, move goods inside and shelve them, as well to assist in the recycling of packaging materials.
HOW & WHAT TO DROP OFF
Please do not leave food on our doorstep when we are closed. Instead, bring UNEXPIRED and UNOPENED food and toiletry during the times we are open or on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 am.
SORRY, WE DO NOT ACCEPT CLOTHING OR HOUSEHOLD ITEMS.

LOOKING FOR NEW DROP-OFF LOCATIONS We desperately need new drop off locations, particularly retailers in downtown Winooski. If you can accept food donations at your store or business, we will pick them up if necessary. Just contact us and someone will stop by. Thank you for caring about your neighbors.

I love this place. I haven't had to use a food shelf for a while but when I had to, they were sweet and un-judging. they didn't care that we were there; they cared that I needed their help, and they did. A lot!! Thank you!!

what to contribute
Donating is easy and welcome at all times not just the holidays. And it's not just food. In January, we focus on dental hygiene, so we're looking for toothbrushes, tooth paste, floss, as well as other toiletries.
We have a continuing, critical shortage of Baby Care Products--diapers, formula, baby food, wipes, and toiletries. Cat and dog food is needed almost every month. After the holidays and the end of summer/early fall leave us with shortages almost every year. As the need has grown, so has our need for funds and groceries.
You can help out by sending a tax-deductible check made out to the Winooski Food Shelf c/o The United Methodist Church of Winooski, 24 West Allen Street, Winooski, VT 05404.

how to set up a food drive or fundraiser
A number of local businesses contribute to the Food Shelf on a regular basis, holding food drives on an ongoing basis or special drives during the Holidays. For help setting up a Food Drive, please contact Linda Howe, director, at 802-655-7371 and leave a message.

the vermont food bank
Nearly 50% of the food we share comes from the Vermont Food Bank. From them, we receive donated food items as well as the opportunity to purchase food at heavily discounted rates through their various programs. For more on the Vermont Food Bank
